Dasia beach, just 450 meters away, is sandy with protected and calm waters, ideal for children. Beach-front tavernas and cafes are abundant, while various watersports are available. We are just 10 kilometres (6 miles) of National Road North of Corfu town. The bus passes on a regular basis and will get you there in no time. A little more about Corfu
Corfu is a beautiful island year round, combining natural beauty, cultural wealth, impressive architecture... Come for orthodox Easter to see the processions, the parades, the pot-throwing custom and the candle-lit resurrection ceremony on the Esplanade.
Tan on its dozens of pristine beaches in the summer (Barbati, Glyfada, Aghios Georgios Pagon, Aghios Stephanos, Issos, Aghios Gordis, Kontogiallos, Sidari, Myrtiotissa, Kerassia, Paleokastritsa...), and enjoy the sports (parasailing, water-skiing, scuba diving, cycling, golf, horse riding...), beach-front tavernas, cafes and clubs. Take a day cruise along the picturesque North-east coast, or visit the sea caves in Paleokastritsa.
The medieval Campiello district is breathtaking, and has recently been included in UNESCO's protected wonders. The town's architecture has been influenced by millennia of rich history. In the centre of town walk through the Liston, whose arcaded buildings were built to resemble the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, to reach the classical palace built in the 1820ies for the British High Commissioner. Visit the Byzantine cathedral, the church of Saint Spyridon, the monasteries, the museums, as well as the medieval castles built by Venice, England and France. Don't forget to visit Achilleon, the castle buit by Austrian princess Sisi and dedicated the Achilles.
Music, literature and fine art also come alive in Corfu. Dionysios Solomos, poet, wrote the Greek National Anthem, to which Nicholaos Chalikiopoulos Mantzaros wrote the music. Edward Lear painted many Corfiot landscapes. Gerald Durrell, author, biologist and environmentalist, wrote "My family and other animals", an autobiographical novel about his early years in Corfu. A public garden is named after him on the Esplanade square.
It's no wonder Corfu was chosen by the Royal families of Austria and Greece amongst others as a summer retreat!
